Which flight program is favorable? ?

  • Suppose you are flying a plane from NY to FL. Do those normally do

    (1) constant altitude, constant lift coefficient
    (2) constant speed, constant lift coefficient
    (3) constant altitude, constant speed

    Which out of the 3 sounds favorable? I'm having a hard time doing my project here so help would be nice... Thanks.


  • I would try to use constant altitude, constant speed at cruising altitude. But sometimes if there is turbulence in a certain area or another plane near you, you need to ascend or descend and slow down.


  • (3) constant altitude, constant speed

    Because the lift coefficient will change with the decreasing weight of the aircraft as fuel is burned.
